Please drive safely! Here in Costa Rica, the river may be class IV, but the road is class V. You must be at the Caribbean Dish Restaurant by 9:00 AM unless otherwise advised. This means that you must depart Puerto Viejo no later than 7:00 AM or Cahuita no later than 7:20. If you will need to stop for food, bathroom, etc., you will need to leave earlier. From Puerto Viejo or Cahuita, drive north to Limon. You will come to a stop light where you can no longer go straight because the road becomes one-way in the opposite direction. This is the intersection with the highway to San Jose. Make a left towards San Jose and drive about 60 kilometers (37 miles) to Siquirres. Do not turn onto the road to downtown Siquirres, but stay on the main highway. Beyond the entrance to Siquirres you will pass under the only overpass on the highway between Limon and San Jose. The Caribbean Dish Restaurant will be about 300 meters (about 300 yards) ahead on the right side of the road. Everyone in the area knows where the Caribbean Dish is, so if you get lost, ask anyone and everyone. The manager of the Caribbean Dish will be expecting you. Tell them that you are there for the RAINFOREST WORLD rafting trip. A car should be waiting or the restaurant staff will make a call and a car will come shortly. Transfer all your gear from your car to the vehicle that will take you to meet the rest of the group at the river put-in. At this point, again transfer all your belongings to the RainForest World shuttle van. Between 3:00 and 4:00PM you will arrive at our river take-out facility just outside of SQS. Here you will meet your belongings. You can shower, change into dry clothes and enjoy an icy-cold beverage and a snack if you like (no alcohol for the driver, please). After you say goodbye to your guides, our shuttle van will take you back to your car at the Caribbean Dish Restaurant. If you are going on to San Jose, turn right from the restaurant and continue in the same direction from which you came. To avoid driving in the dark and fog, I suggest leaving as early as possible and not stopping to eat until you are out of the mountains. But don't rush; drive safely, for it is said that this stretch of highway is the most dangerous in the country. It should take you about two hours to reach San Jose. If you are returning to the South Caribbean, turn left from the restaurant and go back the way you came. Please drive safely; there is no rush. Please drop by our office the next day and let us know how your trip was. Phone: RainForest World: 357-7250 |
