2-Day Budget Pacuare River Trip

The Sylvia Chaves family of the Indigenous Cabecar Tribe is our host. A portion of proceeds help to support this tribe. Two of Sylvia's sons are our full-time river guides who grew up playing in these waters, and there is a good chance that one of them will be a guide on the two-day trip. They have great eyes for wildlife on their home river.

This is comfortable camping. You will sleep in tents on raised and covered platforms with foam mattresses, pillows and fresh sheets. Facilities include a spring-fed shower, flush toilet, and a communal rancho built in traditional Cabecar style with a kitchen and dining area overlooking the river. This is likely as remote as you will get in Costa Rica, and it feels like it. Your guides will prepare delicious meals plus happy hour drinks and snacks while you relax.

In the morning, after coffee and breakfast, you have the option to take a strenuous hour-long hike up through the forest to a mountain ridge and an Indian homestead with views of Turrialba Volcano, river valleys, and the Caribbean far below.

Very Special! Words cannot describe the experience; it must be lived. This trip begins and ends in Siquirres; you must make your own transport to/from Siquirres by car or public bus. It is easy with our instructions.

Duration:

2-Days / 1-Night, about 36 hours.

If you are departing from Puerto Viejo, you must be on the first public bus towards San Jose at 7:30 am or driving out of Puerto Viejo in your own car no later than 7:00 am so that you will arrive at the Caribbean Dish Restaurant in Siquirres by 9:30 am.

If you are departing from San Jose you must be on the bus to Turrialba at 7:00am. You will be met at the Turrialba bus terminal at about 9:00 am.

The next day you will exit the river near Siquirres between 3:00 and 4:00 pm. If you are going on to San Jose or Puerto Viejo, you will be taken to the bus terminal in Siquirres and arrive at your destination about 7:00 pm. Or you will be taken by private shuttle to Turrialba and arrive about 6:00 pm

Included:

Expert guides, safety kayaker, all equipment, pre-trip orientation and instruction, all facilities at our mid-river Indian camp, four meals plus Happy Hour snacks and drinks, a side hike to a waterfall, transportation from Siquirres and back to the bus station or to Turrialba, and lots of FUN!

Price:

$185 per person

2-Day Deluxe Pacuare River Trip

The difference on the Deluxe 2-Day trip: Deluxe offers hotel-to-hotel transportation to and from the cities of your choice: Puerto Viejo, San Jose, or La Fortuna. An extra meal is included (breakfast). The Deluxe trip is on the same section of river, but uses a different, less rustic tent camp. The Deluxe trip does NOT include a hike to the Indian homestead.

Duration:

2-Days / 1-Night, about 36 hours.

Pick up from Manzanillo/Puerto Viejo or San Jose between 6:00 am and 6:30 am, from Cahuita between 6:45 am and 7:00 am, and from La Fortuna about 6:00 am. Arrive back to your hotel or in San Jose around 5:30 pm or 6:00 pm, or in La Fortuna/Arenal Volcano around 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm.
